Possibly, but: Limited studies. 1 study in the aug '02 journal of alternative & complementary medicine, indicated 60 % of those who took combo of 400 mg saw palmetto & 100 mg beta-sitosterol showed more hair growth than those taking a placebo. Study equivocal: sample size of test subjects too small & the addition of another drug makes it difficult to determine which drug worked. I'd stay w/ minoxidil.

See a dermatologist: Saw palm contains small amt finasteride. A generic prescription is much more effective & not expensive if prescribed at 5 mg: you use a pill cutter to break it into 4 pieces. 2% Minoxidil works almost as well as 5% & costs less. 10% is not a regular commercial product. Result vary. Benefit comes only to those who use it religeously for years.
