Is it a corn?: Have it evaluated to see if it is a corn. Corns may result from friction, pressure on bony prominences such as hammertoes. Treatments will depend on the propper identification of the diagnosis. Have it evaluated to get the appropriate treatment.

See a podiatrist: Corns are callouses on the toes and are caused mainly by shoe irritation over a period of time. They can just be trimmed by a podiatrist, but will usually come back. The real cause is bony enlargement or malpositioning of the toe. There is a real simple surgert to smooth off the underlying bone and the corn should go away permanently. You can also have your shoes stretched or wear wider shoes.

treat it: Go see a podiatrist for proper diagnosis and treatment. Debridement/shaving of the lesion will temporarily relieve symptoms. X-ray to determine if there is an underlying hammertoe/contracture deformity. If such is the case, then surgical correction of hammertoes may be necessary to reduce deformity and prevent the irritation caused by contracture thus preventing the corn from coming back.
