Trigeminal neuralgia: In headache disorders, the type of pain and specific characteristics of the headache are the most important features for diagnosis. Head hurting, but not being painful, is difficult to assess. Burning sensations on the side of the head occasionally can be a sign of neuropathy. This means a nerve is irritated. If it hurts when you touch it, it may be a sign of trigeminal neuralgia.
