A member asked:

If you had gential warts and now do not test + for hpv, does that mean that maybe those gential warts were not caused by an std?

No: It means that the hpv has been cleared by your immune system. If you had genital warts, you had hpv - but most people will eventually test negative for the virus.

Warts = HPV: No. If the warts diagnosis is correct, HPV is the cause. There are no exceptions; it is the test that failed. There are no standard tests for HPV in warts, at least none approved for use in the US. On the other hand, new genital warts are uncommon at your age (62) so maybe the diagnosis is wrong. Sometimes a biopsy is needed to be certain. Discuss it with your doctor. Consider dermatology consult.
