Viral infection : Hepatitis b is a viral infection of the liver; and causes chronic infection in a very large number of people infected as infants or very young children ( <5% of people infected during adolescence or adulthood). Chronic infection with hbv results in chronic liver disease, including liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. Cirrhosis is irreversible liver scarring and damage. Hepatitis b can be thus deadly.
