I am a 49 year old woman going through menopause, 5 out of 7 nights i wake up with a major hot flash along with a massive headache. is this serious?

No and yes: It's not physically serious, but certainly uncomfortable and interferes with your life. The symptoms will usually decrease with time, but may persist. Estrogen therapy can postpone the symptoms until you stop the estrogen. Some docs use ssri's, but may have side effects. Low dose Clonidine (0.5 mg twice daily) helps some and had very few side effects. Ask your doc.
