Lactose intolerance may be acquired as an adult, which prevents cleavage of lactose into constituent sugars, and consequent oxidation of lactose to lactic acid, which is an irritant of the GI tract, and may cause nausea, cramps and bloating. Try non-lactose containing milk to see if your symptoms improve. Ice cream and other lactose containing foods will cause similar symptoms.
