A member asked:

Can we treat chorioamnionitis with ampicillin and erythromicin / or ampicillin + gentamicin + clindamicin is a better regimen in pprom?

Two diff issues: Chorio is an infection that requires therapeutic antibiotics (amp+gent is a typical regimen; clinda is sometimes added) pprom is different- antibiotics in this case are for prolonging the latency between rupture and delivery to allow for steroid therapy (amp + e'mycin is the best combo.) if chorio develops, delivery is indicated and abx are changed to treat the actual infection.

Neither : Chorioamnoinitis is an infection that involves bacteria in the fluid and the placenta/membranes. Treatment for chorio is typically delivery. Antibiotics are unable to treat the amniotic fluid because there is no blood supply into the fluid to kill the bactria. Simply put it is like an abscess that needs to be drained. The amp/erythro regimine is used to prolong uninfected pprom pregnancies.
