Yes less so with modern birth-control: Modern birth-control pills are very low dose compared to the oral contraceptives of yesterday. They are generally safe however there are complications from birth controls especially in smokers! deep vein thrombosis as well as endometrial hyperplasia and less commonly endometrial cancer.
