A member asked:

Does hiv has some different stage of life (as some other virus) in which it become dormant but survive harsh environment?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

In a way, yes: Hiv can survive ( still potentially infect someone) for days outside the body. How long it can survive depends on several environmental factors. If someone is reusing previously used needles that have small amounts of residual blood, this is a risk for transmission.
