Not common: Did you have cancer? Mets can go to the feet and ankles but are not common. However, chemotherapy can cause ankle pain if you suspect this, get an MRI and consult a podiatric or orthopedic surgeon.

See a physician: It may be the sequela of a bad sprains or it could be osteoarthritis. It could be tendinitis or fracture. There are many causes of ankle pain and unless you had a specific type of cancer that is known to metastasize to bone and bone of the lower extremity, that would be low on a differential. See a specialist of the ankle for x-rays and examination.
