When a brain mri is necessary?

Many indications: There are literally too many examples to list in this forum. The best answer is that doctors are highly trained to know if/when symptoms are worrisome enough to warrant imaging. Mri is the best way to get a very detailed look at the brain and other intracranial structures. Some examples of indications include stroke, seizures, visual changes or severe headache, though the list goes on.

See long answer: Your dr. Needs to exam you, and place the need for imaging, such as a “brain mri” in appropriate clinical context. There are detailed criteria that are used in making this determination. You can view them on the website for the american college of radiology appropriateness criteria: http://www.Acr.Org/quality-safety/appropriateness-criteria/diagnostic.
