However, other things can do so as well. Anytime your breast starts to change size or hurt you should be checked for possible serious causes such as infections or even cancer. See details.: Breasts often swell around the time of menstruation and may be painful also. Caffeine often causes breast tenderness. How many hours do you typically sleep at night? It could be that you're not getting enough restorative sleep at night. I'd suggest 6-8 hours of sleep nightly. One other suggestion is to get check for anemia.
