Pro's & con's to all: Botox may be the most effective, but it temporarily paralyzes associated muscles. Valium IV is extremely effective but also very sedating. Oral muscle relaxers like flexeril, parafon, norflex, skelaxin, (metaxalone) soma, dantrium, Baclofen all work to greater or lesser degrees but each has side effects to be considered. Ask the doc doing the procedure which one he recommends.

As your podiatrist: Personally, i haven't often used muscle relaxants specifically to accompany achilles stretching. (it's actually the calf muscle, not the tendon that stretches) if your surgeon has recommended this, they would be the one to ask. You need to choose drugs careful preceding surgery and make sure the anesthesiologist knows what you have been taking.
