Usually Lifelong: Assuming that the diagnosis is correct, paranoid schizophrenia is a lifelong condition like diabetes which we manage but never actually cure.

Schizophrenia: Unfortunately, if someone is truly schizophrenic, they never get over it. It is a lifelong condition - but this does not necessarily mean the symptoms are actively causing problems every day. Schizophrenia is very challenging to treat, but it is treatable and many people with schizophrenia are able to flourish quite well. There is always hope.

50% recover: At least some older studies from vermont suggest that 50% of people who have their first psychotic episode recover and do not have another episode. Some of these patients may have really had bipolar disorder but certainly some peopl do recover. Many others have a chronic course requiring medications for life.
