Whatever the initial: Cause of the rash, he probably scratched it, broke the skin & got a secondary bacterial infection. His pediatrician can open & culture one of the pustules to determine if it's a staphylococcal infection & which oral antibiotic will cure it. Cut his fingernails very short. Give sitz baths with domeboro solution in 6" of warm water per pkg. Instructions. Give him the complete course of antibiotics.
