A member asked:

If you are never constipated can the diagnoses of severe diverticulitis be correct or is my severe abdominal pain caused by something else.

Diverticulitis: Diverticulitis is a serious infection involving the wall of the colon, which can abscess or perforate. Sometimes it is associated with constipation, but not always. If you have severe abdominal pain, fever, get evaluated. Once diagnosed, treated and resolved, get the recommended colonoscopy in 6 to 8 weeks. Diverticulitis can be life threatening.

Yes: Constipation has nothing to do with diverticulitis. You do not need to be constipated to get diverticulitis.
