Patellofemoral pain: Syndrome (pfps) can cause grinding and cracking in the knees. It is essentially early cartilage damage behind the knees and pain. It can get better with nsaids, bracing and pt. More sigificant issues could be related to frank arthritis, cartilage lesions and possibly synovitis. Pfps is common in young females that play sports, run and jog.
