Treat and Evaluate: Most fungal infections of the skin respond to 10 days of treatment with over-the-counter anti-fungal creams. The question is why do you have that type of infection there. If the infection doesn't respond or is getting worse, you need to be seen by an internist or a dermatologist. Diabetes may predispose one to such infections, so if the infection persisits or recurs, you should be tested for that.
