Is it normal to have a really bad cough for a day or two after getting back into running after 2 years?

Bronchospasm?: This could possibly be exercise-induced asthma. In your case, the bronchospasm is being manifested by a cough. If this is the case, the treatment is to take a bronchodilator inhaler prior to exercise and have it available for use post-exercise. This should prevent the cough. So, see your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
