Be Well: Give yourself lots of tender loving care: eat right, exercise, get rest, balance work/play. When life's out of whack, then we don't fight off infection as well ... And cold sores can break out. Think of it as a yellow flag warning that something's out of balance. 4 or more outbreaks of cold sores in a year? Talk with your doc about daily antiviral rx to prevent more cold sores.

See your doctor: See your doctor and get a prescription for an anti-herpetic medication. There are several and some are generic (so less $$). They work really well for most people. Some doctors give 6 months of daily, low dose therapy to help "reset" your virus and give you fewer outbreaks in the future. Taking the medicine only with an outbreak works well also - more mild and goes away faster.

Cold sores: To prevent cold sores from occurring wash hands often. Maintain a healthful lifestyle (regular exercise, nutritious diet, adequate sleep, keeping stress at bay). Keep lips well moisturized & apply sun screen to the areas that your cold sores normally pop up. Talk with your physician about supplementing with lysine.
