A member asked:

Can blood be tested for anti depressants?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, but ...: There are assays for a variety of antidepressants, but they are of limited value. Sometimes we use blood levels of several of the tricyclic agents (nortriptyline, clomipramine, imipramine) or bupropion to optimize dosing; but there is little to no correlation between blood levels of ssri's, snri's or maoi's and efficacy, hence we rarely would check levels of those meds.
