pleuritic-if bad-ER: Pleuritic pain is sharp, stabbing and relates to discomfort caused by chest expansion. This can either involve the chest wall (rib cage and muscles), the lining around the lungs (pleurisy), the heart (pericarditis), or the lung itself (can be seen in pulmonary emboli or pe). Pe can be very dangerous, and require imaging and IV anticoagulation. If severe pain w shortness of breath, go to er.
