Depends : On how severe it is and where it is. If it is improving over 3 hours, you could try and wait it out for another 3 or so and see. If it is in the right lower abdomen you always need to be concerned about appendicitis, but that would not be a typical presentation.... Without insurance, something like urgent care may be more reasonably priced.

Yes : Abdominal pain that is severe could be much more costly, in terms of your life, if ignored. Perforated appendicitis, ulcers, and diverticulitis can be fatal and usually only occur when someone ignores severe symptoms.
