3-7 yrs: Many times the poor progress of an infant with high risk signals a bad outcome within the first year. However, the complex nature of brain development & it's ability to bypass injury in early years makes it hard to reliably predict the outcome in many. Those who walk/talk & interact at the same level of other kids (adjusted for prematurity) will do well, but some issues emerge at school age.
