Gallstones: If there are no stones in the gallbladder you can still have gallbladder problems related to sludge/gravel material as well as a poorly functioning gallbladder among other more rare conditions.

Be Happy!: Most gallbladder problems are caused by stones and inflammation. There are other disorders that can cause gallbladder symptoms and these might be identified with a hida nuclear scan.

Sludge: Sludge in the gallbladder or a gallbladder that does not empty or contract well can cause pain which can be alleviated with removal of the gallbladder.
