Most people...: We are all at risk of suffering depression particularly if stress becomes chronic and unmanageable. Genetics plays a role. Early childhood loss of the mother; divorced people and those unhappily married may be at higher risk. Poverty and lower socio-economic status, adult children of alcoholics may be at higher risk. Alcoholism and substance abuse are risk factors.Women report more mde than men.

Depression etiology: I agree with dr. Stewart's response. Simply put, causes are; biopsychosocial. This consistes of; 1. Biological: genetic predisposition or chemically induced such as drugs/alcohol. 2. Psychological: self esteem, self concept, self image. 3. Social: loss, grief, stress, traumas.
