Reassurance.: She has a disorder that causes her kidneys to lose potassium inappropriately in her urine. The mainstay of treatment is adequate potassium supplementation and use of medications that can help reduce the amount of potassium the kidneys lose. If her body potassium level can stay normal with treatment, she should do just fine. He kidney problem should not result in kidney failure.

Answers specific to : Your child will come from a geneticist who evaluates her & tests for a mutation in one of the 5 genes that cause bartter syndrome, a group of disorders which impact kidney function. Some types are associated with unusual facial features, sensorineural deafness, &/or strabismus (crossed eyes). The ny state health department's early intervention program will follow her development with you.
