Pathophysiology: Although both type i and type ii diabetes manifest with high blood sugars the basic underpinnings of the two are different. Type i diabetes is caused by an autoimmune destruction of the beta cells which make Insulin in the pancreas. It is not caused by diet or lifestyle choices. Type ii diabetes in is most often associated with obesity and a family history of type ii diabetes.
