Not always: Not always but if you catch it early you definitely have a good chance of a better outcome. If you suspect you or someone you know has oral cancer, please see a dentist as soon as possible. The dentist can biopsy the area and get it analyzed at a lab, or refer you to an oral surgeon to have this done. Stop any bad habits such as smoking, dipping and drinking alcohol in excess.

More often: Not always. See oral surgeon or ENT doc if you have any of these symptoms: Persistent mouth sore, persistent mouth pain, a lump or thickening in the cheek, a white/red patch on the gums, tongue, tonsil, or lining of the mouth, a sore throat, hoarseness or feeling that something is caught in the throat that does not go away, difficulty swallowing/chewing.
