A member asked:

Can thyroid be permanantly cured?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not usually: Most thyroid disease is autoimmune. Autoimmune hyperthyroidism can go into remission but has a high rate of recurrence. Autoimmune hypothyroidism results in permanent dysfunction of thyroid tissue and usually requires lifelong thyroid replacement.
