An Antibiotic: Yes, it is an antibiotic. While not commonly used for acne, it can be used, and would also work. It is in the same family as erythromycin, which is the most common for acne in that family, but Azithromycin would also work and may be less irritating to your stomach.

Acne & Azithromycin: Azithromycin is an antibiotic and it is used at times to treat acne. There are a number of other oral antibiotics and other oral medications that can used in addition to a number of topical solutions. In general, the doctor will decide which of the various options for treatment provides the best chance for success balanced against the cost and potential side effects.
