Pneumonia: Pneumonia is an infection of the lungs caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungus. It can be diagnosed by a physician by chest x-ray in most cases. Most cases (if caught early enough) can be easily treated as an outpatient. It becomes more problematic in the elderly, and more medically frail patients so get evaluated by your doctor if you believe you have it!

Lung infection: Pneumonia refers to an infection of the lung tissue. It is distinct from bronchitis which involves the lung air tubes or bronchi, so pneumonia involves the air sacs ( bronchioles and alveoli).

Can develop quickly or can take some time, depending on the bacterium/virus involved. Signs include a measured fever and typical findings on a chest X-ray. Once treated, should stay away.
