ACE inhibitor: Younger patients (age 22-51) respond best to angiotensin converting enzyme (ace) inhibitors or angiotensin-ii receptor blockers (arbs) and beta blockers. However, beta blockers are not commonly used for initial monotherapy without a specific indication, as they appear to provide inferior protection against stroke risk.
