Depends: If your child is in daycare, it could be due to frequent exposure to colds. If your child has problem with enlarged adenoids (does he snore/"stay congested" all the time?) or difficulty with the way the eustation tubes are functioning (they drain fluid from the middle ear into the back of the nose/throat), that could be a contributing factor. Exposure to second hand smoke is also a risk factor.

Allergies: In children with recurrent ear infections despite antibiotics, i suggest removing dairy from the diet for 3-6 months. I have also had success with craniosacral therapy and chiropractic in correcting subtle misalignments that can impair drainage from the ears.
