Yes: The answer is yes, most of the time; but not always. Even babies born at 35-36 weeks, "late preterm" babies, often need extra time to learn how to eat. They are at high risk of readmission to the er and hospital if discharged shortly after birth. They often have jaundice, temperature control problems, and can easily get dehydrated and lose excessive weight if intake is not carefully monitored.
