Lets talk inside 1st: Hiv transmission in women happens through the vagina, the cervix and possibly the uterus. The walls of the vagina are made up of mucous membranes. This means that HIV can still infect women even if the vaginal mucous membranes are healthy and intact (not only through small tears or sores in the mucous membrane).
