Is a thickened carotid artery something to worry about?

No, not by itself: If that is the only finding, a thickened carotid artery is not something to worry about. However, if it is associated with narrowing in the carotid, it should be investigated further by duplex scanning.

Yes: As we age there is some thickening of the wall-intima. But it is a sign of potential atherosclerosis, and risk factor change is encouraged. Stop smoking check blood pressure aha diet or weight control appropriate cardiovascular exercise etc.
