My 9 year old was abruptly woken up by a pain she describes as a twisting cramp, left side stomach area under ribcage, causing her to shake and tense.

See the doctor: If the pain is severe , getting worse or persistent have her seen . Left side pain is rarely from appendicitis, it could be the beginning of stomach flu , kidney stone or even from twisting of ovaries.
