Start right now!: Folic acid is safe for anyone to take. The most important time to take it is the first few weeks of pregnancy which is why it's wise for all who might become pregnant to take it preventively so it is on board even before you know you are pregnant. Hopefully you have been getting folate (folic acid) in your diet. I advise taking the active l-5-mthf form, as 1/3 of people can't convert Folic Acid to this form.
