Experts, please help: If you are writing about your own baby, I am so sorry for this sad loss. I know there are conditions that can cause blood clots to form in the placenta. They fall under the umbrella of "thrombophilias, " the most common of these being "factor v leiden." if you have this, it can impact a later pregnancy - but it can be managed, usually by a high-risk ob. Yes: When circulation stops at death, blood may clot. The pathology is different.
