Depends on reason: Ketones increase in patients who have poorly controlled type 1 diabetes but also increases in non diabetics who are starved, on high protein diet, or who abuse alcohol. The treatment of the first is to control the blood sugar well and follow doctors instructions to the dot. Otherwise, the treatment is by removing the cause. Whether it is diet or alcohol related.
