Not really.: Would be very unlikely that he has 8 cancers on back. If all look alike and are rough they are likely what we call seborrheic keratoses. They are benign. However, it is possible he has one cancer and it might be one of those lesions - hard to say because i can't see them. Have your doc look at a skin check in the near future to put your mind at ease. See google for the "abcde of skin cancer.".
