Neuroglia: These are the glue of the nervous system. They are the non-neuronal cells that provide support & protection for neurons. These cells outnumber neurons by 5-10 times. The ratio in the cerebral cortex is 3.72 , & in cerebellum it is 0.23 . The ratio increases with brain size, for example in mouse it is 65%, in humans it is 90%, & in elephant it is 97%.
