Recurrances: Spontaneous pneumothorax is seen with tall thin men. Recurrences of any health issue can be depressing. In this case, a consult with your local chest/thoracic surgeon should help you. They will exam you and review your case, you may be a candidate for a procedure, pleurodesis, that scars your lung into proper position so it is less likely to collapse again.

See a Chest surgeon: If you had a spontaneous pneumothorax and required chest tube drainage or a vats blebectomy operation you can probably resume near normal physical activity within 4-6 weeks afterwards on average.

Generally yes: Spontaneous pneumothorax (sp) 5 year first recurrence rates for primary and secondary types are between 20-40%. The rate increases after a recurrence. You should be evaluated by a thoracic surgeon for possible surgical treatment. In proper candidates, vats with talc pleuradesis has up to 90-95% success.
