Hydrocortisone : There are many causes of itchy red spots. In most cases, over-the-counter 1% Hydrocortisone ointment (not cream) three to four times per day for 1-2 weeks will cure such spots. If the rash does not go away within 2 weeks, then one should seek a professional medical opinion as other conditions can cause itchy red spots, such as acne, rosacea, folliculitis, and other skin infections.
