A member asked:

Do products like antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers really help or hurt when it comes to preventing infections/sickness?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

They help.: Most of our illnesses are acquired through our mouths, nose or eyes. We tend to pick up bacteria or viral particles on our hands and then transfer them to our mouth, nose or eyes during routine daily functioning. Antibacterial soaps and hand sanitizers can greatly reduce the contamination on our hands/fingers.
