Depends: A simple sore throat from a cold responds nicely to hot liquid of some type. Some people like hot water and honey, some like tea, and then there is always chicken soup. Lozenges can help as well as advil or tylenol (acetaminophen). If the sore throat is severe and you are having trouble swallowing, not just discomfort, but pain you may have a viral or bacterial infection. In that case you should see your doctor.
