Absolutely not: Today's techniques and state of the art equipment allow simple procedures like restoring a decayed tooth to be painless. Good luck and be well.

No: With proper local anesthesia you should feel nothing. I don't believe in putting patients " under" for restorative procedures except in unusual extreme cases.

No: A local anesthetic is commonly used and it does not hurt. For 8 years we have been using lasers in preparing teeth to get filled. Many times it is shot free and drill free. Have you not had cavities filled before? You should always discuss any concerns you have with your dentist before starting treatment.

Suggestion: You have already gotten some terrific answers from my esteemed colleagues. We all agree that routine dentistry such as getting your teeth restored with fillings can be completely pain free. I suspect that you do not routinely visit the dentist. Find a dentist that your friends, neighbors, family or co-workers already use, trust, are happy with and know that he\she is gentle and caring.
