Any symptoms?: Do you have redness, swelling, pain, discharge at the IV site? If not merely keep an eye on it and your body will do the rest to naturally dissolve it. If you have the above symptoms, see your doctor for evaluation.

Minor injury: The IV most likely pierced the vein or bled thought the insertion point. Either way it is a minor injury. You need only apply warm compresses and a medication such as Motrin if you have pain. It will eventually disolve and go away.

Warm Compresses: Start with warm compresses to aid with the swelling and discomfort. This usually will be sufficient to help treat the problem. If you are allowed try some Aspirin which will prevent the formation of a larger clot. Discuss with you surgeon before taking this step.
